Congress Party took out Jal Adhikar Yatra from Prayagraj and completed 500 kms long area on the banks of Holi river Ganga and reached Ballia covering more than 200 villages. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi not only sent Rs 10 lakhs as aid for the repairs of boats damaged by the police. She also addressed members of Nishad community through video calls and assured all nishads and resolved to help the community for its rights on the produce from the rivers.

Now preparations are being made to start bunker adhikar Yatra to reach out to lakhs of weavers suffering due to government apathy. Weavers leaders from Varanasi and adjoining districts have been asked to draw road map for the yatra which would coverise affected area. Former Congress MLA from Varanasi and UPCC president Ajay Rai are in touch to final touches for the yatra.

The bunker adhikar Yatra will raise the issues of financial assistance to lack of power to weavers belonging to over a dozen districts from Barabanki to Azamgarh involving vast Muslim population in eastern UP and people from backwards and Dalits in western parts of state.

As per the plan Bunkar Adhikar Yatra will culminate in a big meeting at Varanasi to be addressed by Priyanka Gandhi in April end. It was felt that the decision of Priyanka Gandhi to start such adhikar yatra would not only raise the issues of these communities but help to revive the party organisation through people connect.

Priyanka Gandhi has also directed state party to take panchayat polls very seriously and zonal meetings are taking place accordingly. On March 24 an important meeting of Eastern Zone took place at Varanasi and it was resolved that all resources would be mobilised to win maximum panchayats out of total 500 in 10 districts.

The representatives from Prayagraj, Badhoi, Mirzapur, Sonbhadhr, Chandauli, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Mau and Ballia attended the meeting. Prominent among those who participated in the meeting included former MP Rajesh Mishra, Rakesh Sachan, Bal Krishan Chauhan, Ajai Rai, Anil Amitabh Dube, Bhagwati Choudhry.

Significantly AICC national secretary Bajirao Khade addressed the meeting which was presided over by President of Eastern Zone Laliteshwar Tripathi who is great great son of legendary Congress leader Kamlapati Tripathi.

At a time when Congress, Samajwadi Party and BSP have announced no alliance for 2022 assembly polls Akhilesh Yadav, Priyanka Gandhi and Mayawati are busy projecting their own party as main opposition party against BJP. (IPA Service)
