Is there a chance the presence of this Gandhi troika unnerved the treasury benches enough to make the Modi-led government commit unforced errors, finally capping the slate with the deliberate FIR against LoP Rahul Gandhi? How about Union Home Minister Amit Shah, did he go off-kilter and stopped thinking right, committing a mistake that was staring him in the face, nay eyes?

No Indian politician worth his political salt would have cast BR Ambedkar in bad light, unless he was a mental misfit. Whatever blunder Amit Shah committed, whether intentionally or unwittingly, he cannot truly correct. Like the saying goes, once an arrow is shot and words are uttered, neither of the two can be retrieved. Shah, after the effect, defended himself by saying his entire statement should be heard together and not just the "12 second clip" that the Congress presented to a public revering BR Ambedkar, especially the Dalit and the Extremely Backward Class castes, for both of whom, Ambedkar is "God".

Amit Shah with, perhaps, the devil taking hold of him, elevated 'God' to the level of Ambedkar and that didn’t go down well with the Congress. Shah forgot that some mortals become immortal when their intellect rises to divine heights. For the oppressed mortals, the children of lesser gods, there was no God other than Dr. BR Ambedkar.

To be fair, at least to look fair, Amit Shah, like some apologists for the Union Home Minister say, committed a "slip of the tongue", but there's no test to give him a clean chit and Amit Shah, for all his Home ministerial clout, cannot give himself one even with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his side.

Guess what, the situation was ripe for vengeance to take a hand and the Congress believes Rahul Gandhi is being targeted for taking Amit Shah to the cleaners after his mortal mistake. Also, for the BJP, Amit Shah has to be defended, come what may, but how?

How about by turning the tables on Rahul Gandhi? The melee of BJP MPs at the ‘Makar Dwar’, post Shah’s faux pas, presented opportunity. Why hasn’t Parliament not released the CCTV footage of when LoP Rahul Gandhi allegedly went off the rails and "pushed" two Bharatiya Janata Party from their perch at Makar Dwar?

The Delhi Police has registered an FIR and must have custody of the CCTV footage of the "scuffle/push". The LoP has been booked under several BNS sections — 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention).

With that many sections, what do they betray? A mountain of vengeance without any evidence! The BJP doesn't like Rahul Gandhi and why should they? The “Modi-Adani nexus”, the Modi-Adani 'skit' played out in the Parliament compound; thereafter, the BJP maliciously linking Sonia and Rahul Gandhi to American billionaire George Soros, there were enough ‘reasons’ to go after the Leader of the Opposition.

It is fair to conclude that the Amit Shah episode broke the camel’s back. For the Delhi Police, however, it will be hard to nail Rahul Gandhi to "push and shove".

Already, the Delhi Police faces flak for being a puppet of the Union Home Ministry and a handmaiden of the Union Home Minister. That alone erodes the credibility of the Delhi Police. All this after two BJP MPs — Pratap Chandra Sarangi from Balasore in Odisha and Mukesh Rajput from Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh — were injured in the Makar Dwar fracas over Amit Shah's Ambedkar remarks. Sarangi claimed Rahul Gandhi pushed him and he fell along with Rajput. To which Rahul Gandhi is later heard clarifying, "he pushed me..."

Sarangi and Rajput ended up in the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital ICU and it was only after that it dawned on the Lok Sabha Speaker that he should have taken steps to show he’s in command and not ‘Sarangi’ or ‘Rahul Gandhi’. Otherwise a stern sentinel, Speaker Birla is almost ‘beatific’ when Prime Minister Modi is present in the Lok Sabha.

Also, LoP Rahul Gandhi excels in the adversarial role when facing the Speaker. Rahul now faces a fait accompli. Did Rahul Gandhi deliberately "walk through" the BJP MPs at the Makar Dwar? The BJP insists he did and that everybody saw it. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra says "Bhaiya" would never push and shove anyone. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge says it was he who "was pushed" and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra seconds Kharge, saying she saw Kharge "fall" and it was she who helped Kharge get back on his feet.

All in all, a conundrum for the Delhi Police. Everybody, including BJP MPs, are calling Sarangi “bhudda MP” and for the Congress, Sarangi wouldn't be able to withstand even a weak nudge. If Rahul Gandhi brushed past him, there would be repercussions and consequences.

Sarangi and Rajput spent the weekend at the RMLH with several BJP MPs visiting them even as the BJP castigated the “mild-mannered Rahul Gandhi” for all the troubles visited on the two MPs. Who would have thought Rahul Gandhi would be a revelation!

The Congress has dismissed the FIR against Rahul Gandhi as a "badge of honour", accusing the BJP of diversionary tactic in response to the Home Minister's belittling tactic against Dalit icon Babasaheb Ambedkar. Already, there are 26 FIRs against Rahul Gandhi and if there is an example of "shoot and scoot", the "casteist RSS-BJP regime" excels at the game. The Congress wants Union Home Minister Amit Shah to submit his resignation. (IPA Service)
