The list was so one sided that the president had to exercise his powers to make partial changes in the list by removing some controversial leaders. Senior BJP leaders who were appointed regional heads were dissatisfied with their appointments and refused to accept the posts Leaders like Lalloo Singh and J P Chaturvedi declined to accept the posts.
Significantly enough, both the leaders Lalloo Singh and JP Chaturvedi who were running for the post of state president were unhappy with their appointment as regional heads. Another senior leader Satyadeo Singh who had been MP is also unhappy as he had only been appointed as a spokesman of the party. Former chairman of UP Legislative Council Kr Manvendra Singh who has been appointed as regional head of Kanpur is also not happy with party leadership.
Former MP from Jaunpur Vidyasagar Sonkar who had been incharge of SC and ST Morcha when Kesrinath Tripathi was state president is also not happy with his reappointment in the same post this time. He was looking for the post of either vice-president or general secretary. In order to satisfy dissidents, the party made two spokesmen and two additional spokesmen but now in all five spokesmen have been appointed. Now senior party leader Satyadeo Singh has refused to accept the post of spokesman.
Senior leaders like Hero Bajpai who was looking after media in the party and another leader Jaipal Singh who had been very close to Rajnath Singh, former BJP national president, are upset as their names do not figure in the list. These leaders have alleged that senior leaders who had made contributions to the party in the past had been ignored by Shahi. They further said inexperienced and new faces were given important positions in the party.
Senior party leaders have alleged that women were also not given proper representation in the new committee. BJP spokesman Hriday Narain Dixit admitted that several senior BJP leaders complained to him about their dissatisfaction. One such senior leader IP Singh was very vocal and created quite a scene in the party headquarters, He said party had given important position to those who could not even save their deposits in past elections.
It would be interesting to know that when Surya Pratap Shahi released the list of 38 members of the committee, it had sons of prominent party leaders. Ashutosh Tandon, son of Lucknow MP Lalji Tandon, has been accommodated in the list. It would be worth mentioning here that Lalji Tandon wanted that his son should have been given party ticket from Lucknow West which was vacated by him. Lalji Tandon was so annoyed by the decision of party high command which refused ticket to his son, that he never campaigned for the party candidate who lost the election.
Former BJP national president Rajnath Singh also ensured that his son Amit Singh was also given position in the committee. Similarly, Major Sunil Dwivedi, son of late BJP leader Bhramdutt Dwivedi, was also given position in party. Major Dwivedi had joined BSP but recently returned to parent party.
BJP list has 10 vice-presidents, eight general secretaries, 18 secretaries and an assistant general secretary and treasurer. (IPA)

Pradeep Kapoor - 2010-08-09 12:37
LUCKNOW: BJP state president Surya Pratap Shahi is facing sharp rebellion from some of the disgruntled leaders of the party over the new list of state executive committee members which has been finalised by the leadership. Shahi was looking for a composite committee consisting of the leaders of all contending factions, but the new list has made his task difficult.
