Despite best of security arrangements by Mayawati government and appeals from religious leaders of Hindu and Muslim communities and social leaders, the people of the state are apprehending large scale violence.
Common people have not forgotten the bloodbath that took place all over the country after the demolition of Babri Mosque in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992.
The fear in the general public has resulted in the panic buying of essential commodities and desertion of crowded place and cancellation of reservations of trains and flights on dates close to September 24.
The fear in the public is so high that all shutters of shops in prominent market in Lucknow were down when a section of minority took out march from one imambara to another to protest disturbances to mosque in Saudi Arabia recently.
There have been of seminars in the state capital and other parts of state where prominent religious leaders like Maulana Kalbe Jwaad, Maulana Kalbe Sadiq and Maulana Khalid Rasheed participated and issued the appeals to people to maintain law and order and honour the verdict.
Similarly almost all political leaders too held meetings from state capital to village level to educate people that they should not take law in their hands after the verdict and do not indulge in any violence.
However Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav in a press conference charged Chief Minister Mayawati and her party of hatching the conspiracy to instigate large scale violence after the verdict.
Akhilesh said Mayawati had become chief minister thrice with the help of BJP and she was in touch with BJP and other members of the Sangh parivar to create disturbances in the state after the verdict was announced.
SP leader said Mayawati government had created panic in the state by converting schools into temporary jails. Even security forces were also camping in these schools where students had been told to stay away for several days as teaching had been cancelled.
Akhilesh said Mayawati government had spent Rs 50 crores for shopping lathi, sticks, torch and helmets for security persons. He further alleged that Rs 6.50 crores were also being spent for PRD jawans.
Although central government has given huge amount and forces to state government to maintain law and order in the state, Samajwadi Party is not satisfied
Akhilesh Yadav charged that central government was silent as it was on December 6,1992 when demolition of Babri mosque took place. The manner in which central government was mute spectator to developments taking place in the state could slip into worst type of communal violence.
Akhilesh Yadav also condemned the searches being made inside imambaras, idgah and mosque in Lucknow and other places. He further said it was a conspiracy of Mayawati government to terrorise Muslim community.
At the same time Akhilesh Yadav said Mayawati government was more serious about the security of her own statues for which special security persons were deputed.
Chief minister Mayawati is also holding meetings with her officials every day and directing them to step up arrangements for maintaining law and order in the state.
The total number of companies of central forces in state would be 52 . The state government has identified 32 communally sensitive cities where central forces would be rushed if required. It would be worth mentioning here that state government had demanded 630 companies (over 63,000 personnel) of central paramilitary forces. (IPA)
