The resolution highlighted the misdeeds of the administration and the BSP legislators a part from mentioning that the crime against women had been continuously rising in the state despite being ruled by a woman chief minister. BJP leaders also blamed the Mayawati Government for failure to enthuse the industrialists for investing in the state.

What was significant about the deliberations was that the state BJUP did not give much emphasis on the movement for building temple in Ayodhya and rather the stress was on wooing minorities. BJP is all set to start its campaign to win over minorities from March 5 in the presence of the senior leader Mr. Arun Jaitley who is in charge of the state.

As per the plan, a group of Muslims will be present when the minority cell of the party would be relaunched. BJP meet at Meerut resolved that party would claim before the masses that it alone could become alternative to Mayawati government in the state. As per the programme finalized in Meerut meet, BJP will organize ‘dharna’, demonstrations, agitations on peoples issues, torch light procession all over the state and meetings at commissionery level during March and April. BJP will hold “mahasangram rallies’ later in May and in June party will organize training camps and “jail bharo’ agitations.

BJP has decided to hold big rallies in Meerut on April 9, Varanasi on April 16, Faizabad on April 26 and Agra on April 27. BJP national president Nitin Gadkari would also be present along with other national and state leaders.

In order to mobilise urban voters, BJP will concentrate on protest against indirect elections move of BSP government for local bodies by bringing amendment in the laws. Much significance is being attached to Raj Bhawan March in Lucknow on March 15 when all BJP mayors, palika chairmen and corporators would participate.

BJP leadership feel that the party position had slipped to third position both in the Lok Sabha as well as in the assembly and its vote base had shrunk to a mere 16% with only 50...seats in a house of 402. The reason for the shrinking vote base was attributed to the presence of highly entrenched caste politics and the leaders argued that even if the party succeeds in putting the organisation in order, it would be difficult to gain grounds in the presence of caste driven voting.

According to political observers, the” golden era” of BJP in the state was from 1989 to 1998, when Atalji’s Brahmin face, Advaniji’s rath yatra and Ramjanam Bhoomi Andolan helped the party to bridge the caste differences and the voting pattern in the state. In 1993 elections, BJP rose from 89 seats to 227 in the state assembly with a vote base of 36%, which is the highest for any party since then,’’ a senior leader said adding that in 1998 Lok Sabha elections, the party bagged 56 seats.

So, political observers feel that Mission 2012 is going to be toughest task for BJP leaders in the state. It is testing a time for BJP state Pesident Surya Pratap Shashi and Kalraj Mishra who has been given responsibility to lead the campaign. (IPA)
