He sat at dharna protest for 14 year in front of Union Public Service commission demanding inclusion of Indian languages in examination system. The agitation had a limited success. Students can now appear in the examination for Indian Administrative Service in Indian languages as their options. However, his dream is yet to be realized, because English has yet an upper hand in the country.
He believed that first we lose our language, then our culture, and self-respect and then everything.
Leaders like Atal Behari Bajpayee, V P Singh, Chandra Shekhar and Gyani Jail Singh also sat on the Dharna protest, but they did nothing when they came to power.
It is during the tenure of Atal Behari Bajpayee as prime minister, the dharna protest was sabotaged, and the tents vandalized in February 2001. The agitation could survive under open air only for one or two months after the incident.
Last year, Union Public Service Commission has changed syllabus of examination for Indian Administrative Service, which is against the Indian languages, he believed.
He was for making English optional, not compulsory, as it is being treated in this country.
He, as general secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Bhasha Sanrakshan Sangathan was lately preparing for launching a fresh agitation for the protection of Indian Languages.
His death is a great loss to the cause of Indian languages and their lovers.
