Former chief minister of UP and Uttarakhand, Mr. Tewari came to Lucknow after a gap of seven years following an invitation from Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Much significance is being attached to the manner in which Mulayam Singh Yadav is wooing ND Tewari before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Earlier, Mulayam Singh Yadav organised birthday celebrations of ND Tewari at his party office and released one booklet dedicated to college named after Tewari’s wife, late Dr. Shusheela Tewari.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav praised the vision and administrative quality of ND Tewari and his contribution for development of UP and Uttarakhand.
Official machinery was geared up to renovate the bungalow allotted to Mr. Tewari as former chief minister.
The day Mr. Tewari arrived Lucknow, Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav and his chief minister son Mr Akhilesh Yadav called on veteran Congress leader and later all the three leaders faced the press together.
Mr. ND Tewari openly praised the good work done by Akhilesh Yadav as chief minister and said that the time had come that Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav should take leadership at the centre.
After the announcement made by veteran Congress leader, people started talking about Mulayam Singh Yadav becoming the Prime Minister of India, with the help of ND Tewari, should India vote for a hung Lok Sabha.
During his stay in Lucknow, Mr. ND Tewari is meeting Mulayam and his son Akhilesh Yadav more frequently than his old Congress leaders.
There is a huge rush of Samajwadi Party people at the residence of Mr. Tewari, who want his goodwill and connection with Mulayam and Akhilesh to get their work done.
Mr. ND Tewari is also meeting people from different sections of society, including those who demand that they should be heard by the government to resolve their grievances.
What could be a greater honour for Mr. Tewari than that Mulayam and his son Akhilesh visited him and requested him to accept to be the chief guest at the function to celebrate 125 years of UP Assembly.
Political observers feel that at a time when Congress party preferred to ignore Mr. ND Tewari, the efforts of Mulayam and his chief minister son Akhilesh to woo the veteran leader, would pay rich dividends during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in UP as well as Uttarakhand.
Mr. Tewari's presence and certificate for good governance to Akhilesh Yadav would also bring upper castes closer to Samajwadi Party, which has already earned goodwill by opposing reservation in promotion for scheduled caste and scheduled tribes. (IPA)
