The International Contact Group on Afghanistan and Pakistan is slated to meet here on Thursday, the January 16. This is a group of 53 countries which are involved in Afghanistan is coordinated by Germany. It started in 2009. Previously it was called the Special Representatives Group. It was then subsequently renamed as the International Contact Group on Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Indian Prime Minister's Special Envoy to Afghanistan, SK Lamba will lead the Indian team at the Group's meeting.
On January 17, New Delhi will also host a meeting of the senior officials involved with the Istanbul Process on Afghanistan, which is also called the Heart of Asia process. This will be the 10th meeting of the senior officials who are focused on the Heart of Asia process. Fourteen member states, 16 supporting members, and 11 international organisations will be participating in this meeting, which is being coordinated by Afghanistan.
Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh will lead the Indian team at this meeting.

New Delhi: In the beginning of the year 2014, India is hosting two important conclaves of countries to help Afghanistan have a peaceful presidential election and subsequently to prepare itself for the transformation process following the slated withdrawal of NATO forces from the war raged country in the current year.
