Beater

Beater is someone who strikes someone else repeatedly or violently. A person who beats a metal to give it a shape, or a machine or an implement that does this work is called a beater. In sports, beater is the person who drives game animals by beating. A person who habitually beats someone is also called a beater, such as a wife-beater. Beater is also the means of preventing or defeating something. A dilapidated but serviceable car is also informally called a beater.
