Herbert Vaughan

Herbert Vaughan (1832-1903), full name Herbert Alfred Henry Joseph Thomas Vaughan, was an English cardinal, archbishop of Westminster, born at Gloucester, son of Lieutenant Colonel Vaughan. He was educated at Stonyhurst and abroad. He succeeded Cardinal Manning as archbishop in 1872, having previously been bishop of Salford.
