Abu Sa’id

Abu Sa’id (967-1049) was a Persian Sufi leader and saint poet. He was also known as Abu Sa’id ibn Abi l- Kahyr. He was a first Sufi who drew up a basic monastic rule for his disciples. He was a first master of theosophic verse. He popularized the quatrain as the means of conveying religious, philosophic, and mystic thoughts and considered to have influenced later Sufi poets by establishing typical elements and images of mystic poems.

Wisdom & Quotes

  • The veil between God and you is neither earth nor heaven, nor the throne of the footstool; your self-hood and illusions are the veil, and when you remove these, you have attained God.
  • To lay aside what you have in your head, and to give away what you have in your hands, and not to flinch from whatever befalls you.
