Acedia

Acedia is a mental condition. Spiritual, religious or philosophical overtones make this condition distinct from depression. However, it has been noticed as a problem in certain individuals who somehow develop a mental or spiritual sloth, an apathy, a listlessness. A person suffering from acedia does not care for or concerned with his or her own position or condition in the world.

Acedia, as a problem, was originally noticed among those monks and ascetics who were maintaining solitary lives.
