Achaean League

Achaean League was a confederation of 12 towns in the Peloponnesus, formed in 280 BC, especially against the influence of the Macedonians. The league derived its name from Achaea, a region in the northwestern Peloponnese in ancient Greece. The citi-states that formed the league were situated in the northern and central Peloponnese. The league allied with the Roman Republic and rivaled Antigonid Macedon. However, Romans ultimately conquered the region, and the league was dissolved in 146 BC.

The first Achaean League was believed active in the 5th century BC and was lapsed in 367 BC, when Achaea underwent a democratic revolution.
