Aegis

Aegis is an attribute of the Greek god Zeus and the goddess Athena or of Jupiter (Roman counterpart of Zeus) and Minerva (Roman counterpart of Athena).

It is literally a goat's skin. A story of the Greek mythology tells us that it was the shield of Zeus, made of the hide of the goat Amalthea, representing originally the storm-cloud in which the god invested himself when he was angry.

As for the attribute of Athena, she was bearing in her case the Gorgon's head.

In classical art and mythology, Aegis is represented as a goatskin shield.
