Affinis

Affinis is a Latin term for "akin to". Sometimes it is misleadingly employed as a synonym for 'affinity' for phonetic similarity.

In biology, this term is used when a species is similar to another known species but has enough differences to suggest it might be a separate species, though the species seem to be closely related.

In law, this term is generally used to indicate family connection, generally through marriage, or relatives.
