Aga Khan

Aga Khan is the title of the leader of the Nizari sect of Ismaili Muslims. This title was given for the first time by the shah of Persia in 1818 to Hasan Ali Shah (1800–1881).

It is noteworthy that Aga Khan III had denied it to be a title. He said it to be only a name given to the first Aga Khan.

However, Karim Al-Hussain Shah (b. 1937) inherited this title in 1957 and became the fourth Aga Khan of the sect.
