Age of consent

Age of consent is the minimum legally valid age at which a person can give consent to someone else to establish sexual relation.

The age of consent differs for male and female. Laws in different countries are different. Some countries, such as India, has different ages for consent for different societies.

For example, for a girl child in India, the age of consent is 18 years. However, for Muslim girls it is 16, since this is the age of their marriage.

For a male child is generally 21 years of age, that is the legally valid age of marriage.

The age of consent is typically applied for a girl child in almost all the countries. Lately, it is also being applied for male children in those cases in which they are abused by women.
