Aliwal

Aliwal is a village in the Punjab where Sir Harry Smith led British troops and fought the first Anglo-Sikh war known chiefly as the Battle of Aliwal and gained a victory over the Sikhs, who were provided with forces in superior numbers, in 1846. The village is now in India, situated on the Sutlej in Ludhiana district of the state of Punjab.
