Alsen

Alsen is a German name for Als, the Danish island adjacent to Sleswig, one of the finest in the Baltic. In 1864, after the Battle of Als, it came under German (Prussian) rule, but following the Schleswig plebiscites of 1920, Als returned to Danish rule.
