Alum

Alum is a substance. It is a colourless astringent compound. Chemically, it is a hydrated double sulfate of aluminum and potassium. It is also called potash alum whose chemical formula is AlK(SO4)2.12H2O.

This compound is variously used including in medicinal solutions and in dyeing and tanning industry.

Any of analogous crystalline double sulfates of a monovalent or trivalent mental is also called alum.
