Anders Jonas Angstrom

Anders Jonas Angstrom (1814–1874) was a Swedish physicist and professor at Upsala distinguished for his studies on the solar spectrum. He was one of the founders of spectroscopy. He is best known for his proposed relationship between the emission and absorption spectra of chemical elements and the measurement of optical wavelengths. The unit in which he measured the wavelengths was later named angstrom after him.
