Anglerfish

Anglerfish is name of a fish with a broad, big-mouthed head and a tapering body, both covered with appendages having glittering tips. It burrows in the sand and allures other fishes into its maw by its fleshy lobe attached to a fillament arising from the snout and hanging in front of the mouth. Most of these preying fishes have a very large head and wide mouth, with a small body and tail.

Several families of this fish is found. Some of these rest motionless on the seabed, in particular those of the family Lophiidae. Several others are deep-sea fish. It beongs to the order Lophiiformes.
