Anshuman, according to Indian mythology, was the son of Asamanjas and the grandson of Sagar, the king of the Solar dynasty of Ayodhya.

Sagar sent this grandson in search of his sixty-thousand lost sons who were sent with the sacrificial steed of the Ashvamedh Yagya. Anshuman went to Patal where he came across the ashes of his uncles.

Garud told him as to how to perform funeral rites. Such a rite needed the Ganga to be brought down to Patal.

Having returned with the sacrificial steed, Anshuman related the full story of the events that led to his uncles burnt down to ashes.

The king Sagar handed over his kingdom to Anshuman and retired to the forest.

Anshuman ruled his kingdom with great care and justice. He performed many acts of goodness, austerities, and sacrifices, but failed to bring the river of the Swarg Ganga to Patal.

He had a son named Dilip, who succeeded him to the throne.
