Antinomy

Antinomy, in the transcendental philosophy, is the contradiction between two beliefs or conclusions which arises when we carry the categories of the understanding above experience and apply them to the sphere of that which transcends it. The conclusions or beliefs are in themselves reasonable, but they present a conflict between two laws because of which we land at a paradox.
