Arabesque

Arabesque, literally in the Arabic style, is an ornamental design originally found in Arabic or Moorish decoration. This type of ornamentation was introduced by the Moors, consisting of intertwined flowing lines of imaginary, often fantastic, mathematical or vegetable forms, but exclusive of the forms of men and animals.

In music, it is a kind of a composition or a passage having fanciful ornamentation of the melody. However, in ballet, it is the posture in which one leg is horizontally extended backward while the other leg supports the body.
