Arachidonic acid

Arachidonic acid ( C19H31COOH ) is a term in biochemistry for a polyunsaturated fatty acid found in animal fats. Its alternative name is eicosa-5,8,11,14-enoic acid. It is an essential constituent of the diet. It plays an important role in metabolism, especially in the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
