Argyle

Argyle is a pattern in knitted garments such as sweaters and socks based on the tartan of the Argyll branch of the Campbell clan of Scotland. It derives its name from Argyll, which is a family name and also a former county of Scotland. The pattern is composed of diamonds of various colours on a plain background. Sometimes the garment with an argyle pattern itself is called argyle, particularly a sock.
