Aristobulus

Aristobulus was the name of three Hasmonaean (also Asmonaean) kings of Judea (Israel).

Aristobulus I (d. 102 BC), was the High Priest of Israel, the son of John Hyrcanus, who was the first of the Asmonæan dynasty in Judea to assume the name of king, which he did from 104-102 BC, a pronounced Helleniser.

Aristobulus II was the Jewish High Priest and King of Judea, from 66 BC to 63 BC who was twice carried captive to Rome, and ultimately assassinated in 49B.C.

Aristobulus III (53–34 BC), was last of Asmonæan dynasty scion, who was drowned by Herod in the Jordan, 34 B.C. He was brother of Herod the Great's wife Mariamne, and grandson of Hyrcanus II and Aristobulus II.
