Arney, according to Indian mythology, is an epithet of Shuk. He was son of sage Vyas.

Once Vyas saw Ghritachi, an Apsara. He was so enamoured with her beauty that his semen fell on an Arni, the piece of wood used to kindle sacred fire for Yagya. From that arni, Shuk was born.
