Arras
Arras is a French town in northeastern France, now the capital of the dep. of Pas-de-Calais, long celebrated for its tapestry. In medieval times, it was a centre for the manufacture of tapestries which were also named arras after this town. Arras, the rich tapestry, are typically hung on the walls of a room as decoration or used to conceal an alcove. Originally, the fabric which is used to make these tapestries itself was called arras. The town is also known as the birthplace of Damiens and Robespierre.
