Ascorbic acid

Ascorbic acid (C6H8O6), also Vitamin C, is a lactone, an organic compound that is found particularly in citrus fruits and green vegetables. It is antioxidant and essential for maintaining healthy connective tissues in the body. Severe deficiency of Vitamin C causes scurvy.
