August Hermann Francke
August Hermann Francke (1663-1727) was a German religious philanthropist, born at Lübeck. He was a professor of Oriental Languages and subsequently of Theology at Halle. He founded various educational institutions and a large orphanage, all of which still exist and afford education for some 3000 children annually. He was active in promoting pietism.Nearby pages
