Augustan
Augustan is someone or something of or related to the reign of Augustus, the first Roman emperor.A writer or literature of this Augustan age is also referred to as Augustan, such as Virgil, Horace, Ovid, Livy etc and their works. It was a classical period. The neo-classical period beginning around 1700 and ending around 1745, is also known as Augustan age in England due to the style of English literature of the period. The writers of the period greatly admired the Roman Augustan and deliberately imitated their literary forms and subjects, their emphasis on social concerns, and their ideals of moderation, decorum, and urbanity. The English literature of this period is therefore considered refined and classical. The major writers of this period were Pope, Swift, Addison, and Steele.
