Aurangabad District

Aurangabad is a district in the State of Bihar in India with its headquarters at Aurangabad town. The district lies between 24°57’ - 25°29' North Latitude and 86°21' - 86°42’ East Longitude. The district is bounded on the North by Arwal district on the South by Palamau district of Jharkhand on the East by Gaya district and on the West by Sone river.

Area of this district is 1419.7 sq km. Population of the district as per census 2011 was 2540073.

The district came into existence in 1973. Prior to 1973, Aurangabad was a subdivision of Gaya district. Following re-organization of districts in the year 1973, it acquired the status of an independent district.

The famous Grand Trunk Road (N.H.-2) passes via Aurangabad. The Grand Trunk Road has put the district on the road map of the country and provides easy transport facilities to Kolkata and Delhi.

Sub Divisions of the district are Aurangabad and Daud Nagar, and community development blocks are Madanpur, Kutumba, Daudnagar, Aurangabad, Barun, Obra, Dev, Nabinagar, Haspura, Goh, and Rafiganj.

Paddy, Wheat, Lentil are the major crops of this district. There are Carpet and Blanket Weaving industries here.

Rivers of this district are Sone, Punpun, Auranga, Bataane, Morhar, and Aadi.
