Autonomous

Autonomous denotes a state of having freedom to act independently. As a term in political science, it denotes any region or institution that is self-governed, or at least has considerable power to act independently. This term has also been used in Kantian moral philosophy for the action of an individual that is independent of one's desire and performed in accordance with one's moral duty.
