Avocado

Avocado, also alligator pear, is a fruit and the tree that bears it. It is pear-shaped and has a rough leathery skin, smooth oily edible flesh of light green colour, a large stone within. The colour of the flesh is also known by the name of the fruit. Though, this tropical evergreen tree is native to Central America, it is also widely cultivated in other tropical regions. Its botanical name is Persea americana belonging to the family Lauraceae.
