Avon

Avon is the name of several English rivers, such as Shakespeare's in Warwickshire, of Salisbury in Wiltshire, and of Bristol, rising in Wiltshire. Avon is also a county in southwestern England and Bristol is its county town.

The most famous river of this name is in central England. It rises near the border between the counties of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire and flows 154 km (96 miles) southwest through Stratford before merging into the Severn River. Stratford-upon-Avon is famous for its being Shakespeare's birth-place in Warwickshire.

Another river of this name is in southwestern England. It rises near the border of Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, and flows 121 km (75 miles) through bath and Bristol before merging into the Severn River.
