Babhru

Babhru is the name for several mythological persons in Hindu mythology. The word, in Sanskrit, means dark skinned. That is why the word became an epithet of Agni, Vishnu and Shiv.

There was a Babhru, the Yadava, whose wife was carried away by Shishupal. His story is found in ancient Sanskrit literature of India.

There was yet another Babhru in Hindu mythology who was a son of Visvamitra.

A Gandharva was also known by this name. This Babhru was residing in the sandal wood forest on the Rishabh Mountains.
