Bar mitzvah

Bar mitzvah, literally 'son of the commandment', is a boy undergoing a ceremony of religious initiation in Jewish tradition. The ceremony is also called the bar mitzvah. Bar mitzvah of a boy is performed when he reaches the age of 13, because it is at this age one is supposed to be ready to observe religious precepts, and is therefore considered eligible to take part is public worship.
