Barkis

Barkis was a carrier-lad in Charles Dickens's novel "David Copperfield," published as a serial in 1849 and 1850 and then as a book in 1850. He was in love with David's nurse Peggotty. He shy declaration of his love to her was "Barkis is willin'." He asked David to relay his intention to Peggotty.
