Baron de Stockmar

Baron de Stockmar (1787-1863), full name Christian Friedrich Freiherr von Stockmar, was a German physician and statesman, born at Coburg. He became influential in Belgian and British politics. He was bred to medicine, and became physician to Leopold I of Belgium, and at length his adviser. He was also adviser of Queen Victoria before her accession. He accompanied Prince Albert to Italy before his marriage, and joined him thereafter in England as the trusted friend of both the queen and him. He had two political ideals - a united Germany under Prussia, and unity of purpose between Germany and England.
