Baron von Bunsen

Baron von Bunsen (1791-1860), full name Christian Karl Josias von Bunsen, was a German a diplomatist and man of letters, born at Korbach, in Waldeck. He studied at Marburg and Göttingen. He became acquainted with Niebuhr at Berlin. Under Silvestre de Sacy, he studied Oriental languages at Paris. Thereafter, he became secretary, under Niebuhr, to the Prussian embassy at Rome. He recommended himself to the king, and succeeded Niebuhr. He became ambassador in Switzerland and then in England. He was partial to English institutions, and much esteemed in England. He wrote the "Church of the Future," "Hippolytus and his Age," &c.
