Baron von Richthofen

Baron von Richthofen (1833- 1905), born Ferdinand Paul Wilhelm, Freiherr von Richthofen, was a German traveller and geographer, born in Carlsruhe, Silesia. He accompanied in 1861 the Prussian expedition to Eastern Asia, travelled in 1862-68 in California, and in 1869-72 in China. He thereafter became professor of Geography successively at Bonn, Leipzig, and Berlin. He wrote a great work on China.
