Basoche

Basoche, also La Basoche, was a corporation of lawyers' clerks in Paris. It was active from the Middle Ages and deeply involved in legal, cultural, and even theatrical life. Like many traditional corporations, La Basoche and its authority were eventually abolished during the French Revolution in 1790.
