Bel

Bel is a unit of intensity of sound, or the level of power measured in electrical communication. It is used in the comparison of power levels or intensities of sounds. It corresponds to an intensity ratio of 10 to 1. One tenth of a bel is called decibel. It is named after US scientist Alexander Graham Bell (1847 — 1922).

Bel is also another name for Baal, a fertility god.
