Bhagirathi

Bhagirathi is an epithet of the sacred river Ganga in India. According to Hindu mythology, the name Bhagirathi was derived from the Bhagirath who was descendant of king Sagar. Austerities of Bhagirath induced Shiv and then lord Shiv allowed the sacred river to descend to the earth for the purpose of bathing of ashes of Sagar’s sons.
