Bhimeswara Swami Temple

Bhimeswara Swami Temple is in Draksharamam in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh in India. This temple is one of the "Pancharamas". This is an ancient and holy pagoda. The deities of the temple are Bhimanatha and Manikyamba (Lord Shiva and Parvati).

According to Hindu mythology it was the abode of Daksha Prajapati, the father of Parvati, who performed a yagya at this place, where Sati went uninvited and had to die out of humiliation. Later, Lord Shiva put the dead body on his shoulder and started 'Pralay Tandav. In the meantime Lord Vishnu cut the dead body in eighteen pieces to save the universe from the anger of Lord Shiva. One of the part fell at this place, and it later became one of the eighteen Shakti peetha of India. Sri Manikyamba of Draksharama is the Twelfth.

The temple is now a protected monument whose history goes back to thirteenth century.
