Black mass

Black Mass, also black mass, is a travesty of the Roman Catholic Mass in worship of Satan by various groups. In literary and theatrical context, it is an absurd, a parody, or a burlesque. Black Mass had been in existence in the form of ceremony for centuries and was directly based on a Catholic Mass. However, in later days, Black Mass took the Catholic Mass and inverted it, intentionally mocking the the said catholic celebration. Participants often used a consecrated Eucharistic host and desecrated it, using it in obscene ways. We find mentions of Black Mass in several 19th century books on Satanism and Witchcraft, and now we have also modern revivals.
