Brahmarshi Desh

Brahmarshi Desh was that part of Aryavarta which included the ancient kingdoms of Kurukshetra, Matsya, Panchal, and Shursen. Brahmarshi Desh was never a kingdom, but a region where there were many Brahmarshis. Kurukshetra is now in the state of Haryana, Matsya has been identified with modern day Jaipur, Alwar, and a portion of Bharatpur in Rajasthan. Panchal is identified as Rohilkhand in Uttar Pradesh, but was originally the country north and west of Delhi from the Himalayas foothills to the river Chambal bordering Madhya Pradesh. Shursen was the kingdom vanquished by the Pandava prince Shahdeo during the Mahabharata war. This kingdom was spread over a relatively small area in or around Mathura in modern Uttar Pradesh.
