Claude Louis Hector de Villars
Claude Louis Hector de Villars (1653-1734), Duc de Villars, was marshal of France, born at Moulins. He was one of the most illustrious of Louis XIV's generals, and distinguished in diplomacy as well as war. He served in Germany under Turenne, and in the war of the Spanish Succession. He suppressed the Camisards in the Cévennes, but was defeated by Marlborough at Malplaquet.Wisdom & Quotes
